Is Now the Time to Reinvest in The Eternals?

They’re back… according to Patton Oswalt.

More than nine months ago, Marvel Studios released the most polarizing movie in their lauded, record-breaking history. More so than any film that came before, critics and viewers seem to either love or hate this group of outsiders that had lived among humans for millennia. This lukewarm response from general audiences hit Eternals keys like a shockwave. In general, key books seem to dip in value after projects are released. What we saw with Eternals however was this recent rule of thumb on steroids.

Fast forward to the present. D23, the next entertainment event that will provide Marvel Studios with a chance to make announcements, is weeks away. Patton Oswalt, who debuted as Pip The Troll in an Eternals post-credits scene, basically revealed on The Today Show that Eternals 2 is happening and director Chloe Zhao is returning to helm the movie. Given the Eternals’ keys sharp fall from grace, is now the time to reinvest in this franchise?

Let’s take a look at Covrprice’s data on the first appearances of Sersi, Thena, and Dane Whitman; all of whom are currently alive within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first appearances of Sersi and Thena experienced a slight drop in price action. However, the first appearance of Dane Whitman as the Black Knight and The Eternals #1 are both in the midst of noteworthy price surges.

What are we to make of this?

Comic fans definitely see potential in the Black Knight character, played by Game of Thrones alumnus Kit Harrington. The Eternals as a brand is definitely on the upswing. Not only do you have Oswalt’s unofficial confirmation, but the recent AXE (Avengers, X-Men, Eternals) comics storyline which prominently features the group.

It appears as though the worst days for Eternals’ keys are in the rearview mirror. At the moment, it looks like the Eternals are here to stay.
