Are the Recent Veve Original Comic Art NFTs Gamechangers?
Recent Sara Pichelli MIles Morales cover art for that was done traditionally (pen. ink, and marker) sold for 8K [see Cadence Comic Art].
I can’t find any evidence that there is a traditional version of this cover. Plus, it has been documented that Pichelli, like a lot of creators, is doing more and more of her work digitally. It’s possible that NFT technology may be the only way to get OA way from her in the near future.
It’s also worth mentioning that all 3 of the Marvel OA NFTs that were auctioned off on Veve went for the same price (same buyer???). Along with this Pichelli Miles cover, a Peter Parker Skottie Young cover and q Brian Stelfreeze Black Panther cover also sold.
What stands out to me is that these NFTs sold for more than your average monoprint /artist proof. Granted, these are some of the bigger modern comics artists out there. However, you have to wonder if their industry peers will look at these results and decide that physical representation of digital art is a non-starter, and follow this path.
So, what do you all think? Were these Veve silent auctions significant? Feel free to leave a comment.
